Kids Read Poetry to Seniors for Service Project

Approximately 80 primary education students from The John Cooper School choose a recipient of an annual service project, and this year they chose Avanti Senior Living at Vision Park. The residents at the senior living community thoroughly enjoyed the visit from the students and were impressed as the children took turns reading them creative poetry they had written in their classes. The students were eager to showcase their work, and this was an excellent opportunity for them to broaden their social skills. The granddaughter of an Avanti memory care resident coordinates these projects with the school, as she knows residents like her grandmother delight in attending intergenerational events with children.

As a thank you, Avanti served refreshments to the students toward the end of the visit and passed out goody bags which they stuffed during a social hour in preparation of their visit.   Avanti Senior Living at Vision Park and The John Cooper School value intergenerational events, as seniors and children have much to learn from each other. These events foster a unique environment. Opportunities such as this also demonstrate the importance of giving back to others.
