The holidays are here and parties are being planned, but it’s time to do something different for holiday entertainment! This year, TEAM Abilities, an agency that serves adults with special needs, is offering the sounds of gladness and joy from their TEAM Christmas Choir.

“Our Team Members have been practicing with great excitement in hopes that they will be able to entertain various businesses and schools in our community,” said Rachel Jelks, Founder and CEO of TEAM Abilities. “They sound great and you won’t find a more grateful group!”

Team Members, adults with special needs who reside in TEAM Abilities community living homes, have typically sung before groups in assisted living facilities in the Spring/Woodlands area, but this year decided to present themselves as holiday entertainment for area businesses and schools.

“They will entertain for half an hour and they offer their services on a love donation basis. All funds received are split between the Team Members,” said Jelks. “They will then use those well-earned funds to buy Christmas gifts and other items they might want.”

TEAM is an acronym for Together Everyone Achieves More and TEAM Abilities has been serving the Montgomery and Harris counties for 14 years specializing in the IDD community. They take all levels of need and all levels of support as they serve adults with special needs through ISS / day habilitation and community living homes. Financial analysts have indicated that there is a financial epidemic in America today. Most Americans are stressed to max and budgets are stretched beyond means. Fact is, people are struggling just to get by. People need hope and people need guidance. Fortunately, the upcoming Financial Empowerment Conference will offer both to those who attend, free of charge, with lunch provided.

“All it takes is a quick trip to the grocery store or filling up one’s gas tank to know that we are living in different times,” offers Rachel Marie Jelks, founder of sparkle events with Rachel Marie. “Used to be that $100 worth of groceries would fill up your trunk. Now $100 worth of groceries are but a few bags you put in the front seat!”

Esteemed financial experts will be on hand to quite simply talk about how money works. Attendees will learn how to save, budget and invest, as well as how to build credit, how to buy a home or invest in real estate and how to leverage small business revenues to absolute freedom.

“We may not have all the answers, but we are offering a way for people to see their financial situation differently and make some headway that will give them a sense of hope,” Jelks said. “We are also offering free headshots to attendees so they may update their social media accounts and resumes.”

Jelks will also be sharing her personal story of starting and failing in a few businesses, but then with $1,000 began again and today her enterprise earns in excess of $5M annually. She says the difference between her and others is that she didn’t take “no” for an answer and simply began again! Jelks hopes by sharing her story attendees will become inspired to master the helm of their financial future.

The Financial Empowerment conference will be held on Saturday, October 5, 10am – 2pm at TEAM Abilities located at 611 Westridge Drive in The Woodlands. The event is being hosted by sparkle events and St. Paul Community Church of Spring. The conference is free, lunch will be provided and attendees can take a free headshot.

“I want people to know that this event is for the benefit of all. There are no additional costs attendees will have to pay,” said Jelks. “We just want to do our part to offer some solutions to those searching for answers.”

TEAM Abilities knows a lot about the special needs community in Montgomery County. The agency just celebrated its 14-year anniversary of serving adults with special needs through day habilitation and community living homes.

“We know back-to-school preparations for families of children with special needs offers its own set of challenges,” Rachel Jelks said, CEO and Founder of TEAM Abilities. “The one thing we can do to assist families is to offer free haircuts. We understand the IDD community and have staff prepared to host this event at our location.”

Though TEAM Abilities’ ISS and residential programs are geared to adults with special needs, there are times the agency enrolls younger applicants.

“TEAM Abilities accepts all levels of need and all levels of care which distinguishes us from most agencies,” Jelks said. “From total care to members who might have behavior issues, we do our best to provide expert care for all.”

There is little to no waitlist for those families who wish to take advantage of TEAM Abilities’ services. According to Jelks, if families have been waiting more than 17 years to get the approved waivers allowing them to finally get care for their loved one, she doesn’t want them to wait much longer to actually get those services.

“We currently have 19 community living homes and have an ISS program so we feel well-equipped in serving the needs of parents. Of course, we are always looking for great staff,” Jelks said. “For this event, we are asking for volunteers and eager school-goers to get their haircut.”

The FREE HAIRCUT event happens Monday, August 12, 10am to 2pm at TEAM Abilities’ day habilitation program located at 611 Westridge Drive in Spring, 77380. To book an appointment text or call Donna at 832-790-2879.
